Why Chelsea’s chase of Laurent Blanc makes no sense if first option was the entertaining Maurizio Sarri
Chelsea are currently screening through options they have at their
disposal for Antonio Conte. They are considering some world class
players in the managerial sector to continue the work at Stamford Bridge
next season.
However the links with Laurent Blanc makes no sense and the Blues seem to be just scrambling through the world for just any manager available and not really with any technical direction.
According to the Daily Mail Chelsea have now made Blanc their main target after Sarri’s complicated contract with Napoli. Sarri has a release clause of £7 million in his contract with Napoli that runs until 2020, but after hiring Carlo Ancelotti a few days ago, the Naples club are still holding on to their demands of being paid a hefty fee before releasing Sarri.
Chelsea have no patience and rightly so. They cannot wait around for Sarri to delay their decision to find a resolution with his club with a pile of work waiting to be done on the Blues squad for next season.
But the decision to move for Blanc does not make technical sense. Sarri is known for the famous ‘Sarri-ball’ and if Chelsea are swapping Conte for Sarri due to the latter’s knack to play attractive expansive football, why is the next option a more calculated operator on the pitch. Make no mistake, Blanc is a great coach and from his time at PSG before the Unai Emery reign, he made PSG a fine winning side, but he was sacked for being cautious and calculated. Emery was thought to be the all entertaining coach that would transform the way the club is identified.
